This week, Claiborne will be at several community events to meet up with neighbors and celebrate our visiting statewide candidates. Please make plans to stop by one of these events. I’d love to meet up with you and hear what’s important to you in county politics.
Schedule of Events
Tuesday, Aug. 23
The Clemson Area League of Women Voters is hosting a Womens' Equality Day party to celebrate the 102nd Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. The party is 5-7 p.m. at the OLLI Cheezem Center in Patrick Square. This event is for League members and their guests only. If you'd like to attend, please email me.
Friday, Aug. 26
The League of Women Voters, the Pickens County Democratic Party, and other volunteers are hosting a Women in Politics breakfast event to meet local women running for office. Tally Casey, candidate for Lt. Governor and overall impressive human, will be joining us. Stop by for donuts and conversation, 10-11 a.m., at the Community Room of the Issaqueena Fire Station in Central.
Saturday, Aug. 27
Kick off the morning with a litter pick up, hosted by Keep Pickens County Beautiful. Meet at the gravel parking lot off SC-133 to pick up Pike Rd. off Old Jewel Bridge Rd. in Clemson. The host will provide gloves, grabbers and safety vests as needed. (Full disclosure: if my broken foot is still in a boot, I may not be able to join.). Find more event info and updates on Facebook.
Then, come meet Lisa Ellis, candidate for Superintendent of Education, at the Community Room of the Issaqueena Fire Station in Central from 3:30 - 5 p.m. She'll speak around 4 p.m. and then take questions. Families are welcome, and we'd love to see teachers there too! Come learn why Lisa, an experienced classroom teacher and advocate for teachers, is by far the best candidate for this position, and ask your questions about the state and future of S.C. schools.
I look forward to talking with folks at these events this week!
